Winthrop Police Department Honored at Minnesota MADD Annual Recognition Program

WINTHROP, Minn. — On May 14, 2026, the Winthrop Police Department participated in the Minnesota Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Annual Recognition Program, where Officer Nicholas Eickschen and K9 Nash were honored with a K9 Excellence Award for their outstanding service and dedication to public safety.

“This award recognizes a K9 officer and partner who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and teamwork in impaired driving enforcement. Through their commitment to public safety, professionalism, and exceptional service, this duo has gone above and beyond in helping keep Minnesota roadways safe,” stated the MADD Certificate of Recognition.

Officer Eickschen and K9 Nash began working together as a rookie team in June 2025 after completing K9 training and quickly made a significant impact in the community through proactive patrol and drug enforcement efforts.

“[Last year] Officer Eickschen and K9 Nash were a rookie team in 2025, starting patrol duties together in June. Together they have seized 610.3g Methamphetamine, 2.1g cocaine, 8.3g of Fentanyl in seven months of 2025 patrol duties after K9 training,” remarked Winthrop Chief of Police Logan Anderson.

Since beginning patrol operations, the team has continued serving the Winthrop community while also assisting neighboring agencies in efforts to remove dangerous drugs from local streets.

The Winthrop Police Department extends its gratitude to Officer Eickschen and K9 Nash for their professionalism, dedication, and continued commitment to protecting the community.
