🌱 KEEP GRASS CLIPPINGS OUT OF THE STREET! 🌱
The City of Winthrop would like to remind residents that grass clippings, leaves, and other yard debris should not be blown or deposited into City streets, gutters, or storm drains.
Grass clippings left in the street can:
Clog storm drains and contribute to localized flooding.
Wash into our waterways, adding excess nutrients and affecting water quality.
Create slippery and potentially hazardous conditions for bicycles and motorcycles.
When mowing, please blow grass clippings back onto your lawn or collect them for proper disposal.

The splashpad will be closed starting on September 21st for winterization. We can't wait for next year when we open again for the community to enjoy.

Man. It won’t let me upload a picture. My favorite thing was the ribbon cutting, showing that small towns thrive on positivity. This community is starting to grow for the better and as stated by Mr.Muth at Farm city fun fest “our park is the heart of our town, we have to keep taking good care of it.” Thank you public works, city of winthrop, generous businesses, positive citizens and kiddos for making this town pop!! 💥

⚠️ ELECTRIC SCOOTER & E-BIKE SAFETY REMINDER ⚠️
The Winthrop Police Department has recently received several complaints and questions regarding the use of electric scooters, e-bikes, and other electric vehicles on our roadways.
Today, we had a close call that could have ended very differently.
A motorist traveling on a city street was forced to take an evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with a young rider on an electric scooter. The rider reportedly entered the intersection without slowing or stopping for a stop sign and without looking for approaching traffic.
The rider was also reportedly wearing earbuds, was not wearing a helmet, and appeared unaware of the approaching vehicle, even as the driver sounded the horn and came within inches of a collision.
Thankfully, no one was injured. However, this incident serves as an important reminder that riding an electric scooter or e-bike on or near a roadway comes with serious responsibilities.
Please remember:
• Obey stop signs and all applicable traffic laws.
• Remove earbuds and other distractions while riding.
• Look both ways and make sure traffic has stopped or the roadway is clear before entering an intersection.
• Wear a properly fitted helmet.
• Stay alert and aware of vehicles, pedestrians, and your surroundings at all times.
• Never assume a driver sees you.
Parents and guardians: If you allow your child to operate an electric scooter, e-bike, or similar vehicle, please take the time to discuss traffic safety and the responsibility that comes with operating it on or near a public roadway.
A few seconds of inattention can have lifelong consequences.
Please slow down, pay attention, follow the rules of the road.
